The exercise science program prepares students to evaluate health behaviors, identify biomechanical risk factors, and develop a comprehensive health and fitness program for a variety of individuals or groups. The students will have the ability to utilize these skills based on their knowledge obtained through their coursework (i.e. exercise physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics).

Why study Exercise Science at TMU?

A bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Thomas More University prepares students for a future in the allied healthcare professions. If students wish to pursue a Master’s degree, the Bachelor’s in Exercise Science in conjunction with the Master’s in Athletic Training is a 5-year accelerated degree program.

What will I be doing?

Along with core curriculum classes, students will be involved in hands-on laboratory studies utilizing advanced testing equipment while learning how exercise science applies to the human body from a systemic approach.

Where do alumni work or pursue advanced degrees?

A degree in exercise science will help prepare students for entry into medical school, dental school, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training programs.  Students will also qualify to sit for the National Strength Coaches Association (NSCA) CSCS certification.

What careers will be open to me?

Student with a degree in exercise science will be able to pursue careers in the following: MD, DO, PA, PT, OT, AT, exercise physiologist, biomechanist, strength and conditioning coach, sports nutritionist, and sports psychologist.

What experiential learning opportunities will I have?

TMU labs incorporate advanced exercise physiology and biomechanics testing equipment with possible research consideration working with our facility on advancement of human well-being both inside the classroom and out in the community.
