The Chicxulub Impact: A Day That Changed the World
Presented by: Dr. Wes Ryle
The Chicxulub crater in Mexico marks the location of an impact that drastically changed the course of life on Earth about 65 million years ago. Join us as we discuss the processes that led to the discovery of the crater and its link to one of the largest extinctions in Earth’s history, including the recent discovery of a fossil site showing the devastation created just moments after impact.
The lecture will last roughly one hour, followed by night sky viewing at the observatory (weather permitting).
When and Where:
Saturday, April 13th
Talk – 8 p.m. in Steigerwald Hall, Saints Center
Observing – 9 p.m. at The BB&T Observatory (weather permitting)
